DUBAI: A student and her cousin have been left with burns to the face and body after acid was thrown into their car in London on her 21st birthday.
Resham Khan and Jameel Muhktar were inside a car at a traffic light on June 21 when the attack took place in Beckton, east London.
Posting on social media over the weekend, Khan said she had been planning to visit a spa and go out for a meal when the attack took place.
The 21-year-old said she was “devastated” about the attack that meant she would “probably never look the same.”
Meanwhile, a friend set up a GoFundMe page on Saturday to help cover the costs of the treatment, on which photos of the burns were shared.
Friend Daniel Mann wrote on the fundraising page: “Resham and Jameel feel as though she won’t be accepted in ‘the world we live in’, and that all their future plans and goals are now unachievable… Myself and a few other of Resham’s friends wanted to raise money to support them with therapy sessions to rebuild confidence, laser eye treatment and accommodation in an area they feel safe in.”
The Metropolitan Police released a statement at the time, saying: “Both victims have suffered burn injuries described as life-changing… Officers from Newham and the Met’s Territorial Support Group executed a warrant at an address in E16 on the afternoon of 21 June in connection with the incident. There were no arrests; enquiries continue.”
